It represents the 4 divine states of the universe: Metta (loving kindness), Karuna (compassion), Mudita (sympathetic joy) and Upekkha (equanimity). Each part of the symbol stands for a different state of consciousness, and represents being fully aware of yourself and everything around you and keeping an infinitely open mind.
